Diwali is one of
the most important festivals of Hindus, and it signifies the victory
of good over evil. It is also known as the 'festival of lights', as
one can witness colourful lamps lit outside homes and plenty of
fireworks on this occasion. The main festive night of Diwali falls on
the new moon night of Kartik, a lunar month in Hindu calendar.
According to Gregorian calendar, this festival falls between
mid-October and early November.
People of Gurgaon
clean and decorate their homes before the night of Diwali. On the
night of this festival, they put on their new clothes and light the
traditional lamps called 'Diyas'. A ritual called 'Puja' is
performed, during which, the entire family members offer prayers to
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. This is followed by
lots of fireworks, a feast of delicious sweets, and a generous
exchange of gifts between close friends and family members.
